About JAKE
JAKE
My name is Jake, and I am SO glad you are here! Whether it is from a joyful instagram video or by word of mouth, I am thankful for whatever inspired you to click.
I am an Ohio native who began my teaching career in Milwaukee, WI in 2015. Having specialized in literacy instruction, I built a following on social media for my engaging and rhythmic phonics lessons and evidence-based structured literacy lessons, even landing me on The Kelly Clarkson Show in January 2024.
Throughout my career, I've taught Pre-K, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades and have recently stepped into the role of Foundational Literacy Director for a choice school in Milwaukee, WI. In my role, I support a team of elementary teachers with their implementation of the science of reading. In addition, I co-teach an online Science of Reading Course for Elevate Your Classroom.
In my spare time, I present nationally for conferences such as Elevate Your Classroom, Unlocking SOR, IL ASCD, and Plain Talk. Welcome to Engage with Jake, where JOY and explicit instruction meet! Let's dive in!

As a primary educator, it is my passion and mission to engage students through kinesthetic and multi-sensory movement. As Kirin Sinha once wrote for Edutopia,
“No matter how much we memorize, recite, and study, our muscle memory seems to trump our brains alone. We learn best when we combine mind and body."

IMSE Orton Gillingham Case Study
At Greater Holy Temple Christian Academy in Milwaukee, a schoolwide commitment to Structured Literacy is producing extraordinary results. Under the literacy leadership of Jake Daggett, K–5 English Language Arts Director, first-grade foundational reading proficiency nearly tripled, climbing from 27% to 79% during the 2025–2026 school year.
Through a partnership with the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education (IMSE), the academy implemented a consistent, research-based approach to reading instruction that empowers teachers and strengthens student achievement. The transformation has garnered national attention, including a feature in K-12 Dive highlighting the school's remarkable progress.
ESGI Case Study
In a city facing one of the nation’s largest literacy gaps, GHTCA, where Jake serves as Literacy Director for PreK–5, is rewiring reading instruction with the Science of Reading and ESGI’s high-frequency formative assessments. The payoff is already dramatic: kindergarteners are jumping three grade levels with a 44-point national percentile surge, first graders are gaining 13 percentile points, and mastery of essentials like letter ID, CVC decoding, and digraphs is doubling (or better) across classrooms. The secret lies in laser-focused skill tracking, smart small-grouping, and real-time data that help teachers teach what students actually need.
